Pair of flattened vases in Impressionist slip from Montigny-sur-Loing with poppy decoration from the late 19th century.
They are signed under their bases by the painter Artigue.
The town was home to many earthenware factories that called on painters to create the decorations for the ceramics and create a range of models inspired by Impressionism. These earthenware makers at the forefront of innovation developed the process of slip painting, based on colored earth using metallic oxides.
