Small Pot With Lid And Cup In Barbotine From Montigny-sur-loing

Small pot and bowl in impressionist slip from the late 19th century signed by the workshop of Georges Delvaux (1834 – 1909).
The pot decorated with flowers on a nuanced green background is topped with a lid and has two openwork handles.
The underside bears the inscriptions “1261” and “M. S . Lo” (Montigny-Sur-Loing).
The bowl decorated with flowers on a dark green background bears the inscriptions “Montigny s. Loing” and “Dx” (Delvaux).

Georges Delvaux, a chemist, studied glass in Meisenthal, then gradually learned the techniques of earthenware and decoration with colored slip, with Dominique Grenet in Gien, then with Hippolyte Boulenger in Choisy-le-Roi. In 1889, he acquired the earthenware factory of Jean Cachier and Arthur Lee Pearson, which was active until its disappearance in 1909.
